With Version 1.23.0 VS Code introduced a new built-in active indent guide. These show thin grey lines on every indent, while this extension highlights the indent on the indent depth the cursor is currently on. This extension can be used by itself, but it's recommended to use it alongside the built-in indent guides (setting editor.renderIndentGuides). Visually highlights the current indent depth.
